Emmet's Happy New Family!

Emmet

adopted January 2006

Name: Emmet
Age: 3 years
Sex: Male
Color and Size: Black and White, 10 pounds
Date Received by JCCARE:
January 2005
Foster Home:
Suzi Shelton
Foster Location: Russell Springs, Kentucky (south central)

Health: Good.

Background: Emmet was part of a "kennel surrender". He will need work on housebreaking.

Temperament: Emmet's temperament is basically solid - however he is *very* backwards.   He was strictly a kennel

dog, and has almost zero experience with being a pet.   He needs a lot of one-on-one

attention and patience.   He has shown no inclination to bite, and is easy to handle.   He has warmed up a bit since I've had him, and will actually get a little enjoyment out of being petted, if I sit on the floor with him.

Additional notes: We have not done any lead work (concentrating on getting him accustomed to being petted and handled). He is peaceable in a crate.   He appears to be fine with other dogs and cats, but haven't checked him with kids.   I would consider him an emotional "special needs" dog.

Nikee

adopted January 2006

Name: Nikee
Age: 5 yrs.
Sex: Female
Color and Size: Bl/wh, 18+ lbs.
Date Received by JCCARE: Dec. 6, 2005
Foster Home: Zofia
Foster Location: Los Angeles, CA

Health:
Good, but she really needs to be on a diet and get more exercise!

Background:
Nikee originally showed up in a local shelter as a stray and was not reclaimed.
She was adopted by a private party and returned about a month later because
"she doesn't get along with our other dogs". We don't know what breed the other dogs were, but Nikee seems to be doing fine in her foster home. Luckily, I had second hold on her when she was initially in the shelter, so they contacted me and we were able to get her out of the shelter pronto! And boy, was she happy to get out of there.... no more shelter visits
for this little girl!!
Temperament:
Loving and sweet. Likes being petted and is doing fine with the other furkids and regular kids in her foster home.

Sami's Happy New Family!

Sami
adopted February 2006

Name: Sami
Age: 8 years (approx)
Sex: Female
Color and Size: Black and White, 12 lbs
Date Received by JCCARE: 12/11/05
Foster Home: Tim Kerlin
Foster Location: Watervliet, Michigan

Health: Appears to be good but still needs to be vetted and possibly spayed. I can't find a scar so I will wait to see what my vet says.
Temperament: A sweet boy. He is still getting used to all the hustle and bustle of the other Chins but is doing really good. He is a little shy but is slowly coming out of his shell.
Background: Her background, prior to coming to JCCARE, is unknown. She was going to be turned into the dog pound in Columbus, Ohio and was saved by a friend of a Chin breeder there. She was then delivered to me to foster.
Additional Notes: I think she would do better in a single dog home, but given time I feel she would do good with other animals. A home where she is not left alone very much would be ideal.

Health: Excellent! Up to date on all his vaccinations. Will be neutered before placement.
Temperament: What can you say, he is a puppy! A real ball of energy. Loves to play with all the other Chin and people. A very beautiful and lovely boy. I kind of wish he came with an on-off switch. Just a joy to be around.
Background: Hogan should be placed in a home with other Chin. He wants to play and is very, very active. I have come to call Yoshi, Sammy and Hogan The Three stooges when they are tearing through the house.

Niki-Inu
adopted February 2006

Name: Niki-Inu
Age: 2-3 years
Sex: Male
Color and Size: Black and White, 8 lbs
Date Received by JCCARE: 19 April 2005
Foster Home: Carolle Cox
Foster Location: Flower Mound (DFW), Texas

Health: Niki's been through the mill, but I'm glad to report that he's healthy now, and looking for a forever home. Maybe with you?
Background: Niki was found in a parking lot and picked up by Animal Services. They held him the required two weeks, and then sent him to JCCare. He was a mess, and ultimately had to be parted from a ruined and infected eye. This has not stopped this little guy from doing anything he wants to do.
Temperament:
Gentle, cuddly, can still get into puppy trouble occasionally.
Additional notes:
Niki can't handle certain brands of food, but otherwise, there are none.

Johnny
adopted March 2006

Name: Johnny
Age: 2 1/2 years old
Sex: Male
Color and Size: Black and White, 15 lbs
Date Received by JCCARE: 12/29/05
Foster Home: Tim Kerlin
Foster Location: Watervliet, Michigan

Health: Appears to be in excellent health. A very solid boy. He will still need to be vetted to be
brought up to date on his vaccines and to get neutered.
Temperament: A sweet boy. He is still getting used to all the hustle and bustle of the other Chins but is doing really good. He is a little shy but is slowly coming out of his shell.
Background: He owned a deaf lady and her son. They had to move into a new apartment that doesn't allow dogs, so they gave him up. He was a pet store purchase. I think he would do really good in any type of situation. He gets along with the other dogs well but doesn't pay much attention to the cats. I have not seen him around children so I don't know how he would be there.

Temperament: Kelsey is just a little snuggler. She loves her people but also likes to play with all the others around here. She lays next to Karen a lot but still is very active, like a puppy.

Luca
adopted January 2006

Name: Luca
Age: 2 years
Sex: Male
Color and Size: Black and White, 12 lbs
Date Received by JCCARE: January 11, 2006
Foster Home: Sylvia Baker
Foster Location: Linwood, NJ

Health: EXCELLENT
Temperament: FABULOUS, FRIENDLY, TALKS TO YOU WHEN YOU PET HIM... loves to play with NOAH and the others.
Background: LUCA was an owner turn in. Reason: spraying ( marking) inside new home. I think this is a very temporary stage that I am working on, and hopefully, when he goes to his new home, it won't be an issue.
Additional Notes: He should go to a family where someone is home most of the day, and that has another small breed dog for him to play with. His past owner said he is afraid of large dogs. I will not ship, so please be prepared to come to Margate, NEW JERSEY to get him, if you adopt him !

General Tso
adopted March 2006

Name: General Tso
Age: 4 to 5 years
Sex: Male
Color and Size: Black and White
Date Received by JCCARE: December 14, 2005
Foster Home: Eric Detrick
Foster Location: Clearwater, FL

Health: Excellent! Up to date on all his vaccinations. Will be neutered before placement. General Tso continues to make great strides toward recovery. He is very allergic to flea bites. One bite will send his skin into a frenzy. He also has allergies to pollen, and food allergies. He has grade 4 of 4 luxating patellas. He also has the start of dry eye and needs to have his eyes flushed twice daily to keep the eyes from itching. I believe he is partially blind. Tso also has a large umbilical hernia that has never been attended to. My Vet will re-check this before he is placed. With all of this said, he is coming around and becoming a very happy little Chin. He plays with my 1 yr old Chin Haiku for 20 minutes at a time.
Health Update 2/4/06: General Tso is on the road to great health. We just had a follow up Vet visit and received great news. The Vet feels he is much younger. Possibly 4 to 5 years. He is on a round of antibiotics for a yeast infection that is clearing up beautifully. He also has hope for his right eye. He does have KCS, however, with the proper medication and treatment, the Vet feels he will gain full vision in his eye again. It is producing tears after just 4 days on the meds. Very excited about his progress. He's ready for his forever home!
Special note: new forever home will have to keep up with his meds for a minimum of 20 days, depending on his continued progress.
Temperament: "The General" is a sweet and loving little Chin. He can be a bit snippy with other dogs when he has a special treat. Other then treat time, he gets along very well with other dogs. He really loves my Chin puppy, Haiku. They play and play and play. He is happiest on your lap and loves to roll on his back and have his belly rubbed. He likes to sleep on the bed and enjoys wearing doggie sweaters. He was 40% hairless when I rescued him from a kill shelter. I bought him his first sweater out of necessity to keep him warm. Now he will cry until I put it on him. What can I say. He is fashionable...ha! And he makes sounds like a cat. You must meet him to hear this unique ability for yourself :).
Temperament Update 2/4/06: General Tso is a very sweet boy. He loves all people and does fine with small dogs. However, we recently adopted a rescue Akita mix puppy and Tso hates him. Tso will attack him like a pitbull and will not stop until I physically remove him from the poor puppies head. He has a mouth full of what look like puppy teeth, so he does no real damage. I would be concerned that a big dog would not find this desirable and attack him back. "Zen", our puppy, is very easy going and just sits there.
I have not tested him with cats. Fine with kids.
Background: General Tso was found as a stray on the tough city streets of down town Tampa, FL by Hillsborough County Animal Services. He spent a week in the shelter before I found out about him and got him into safety. When I rescued him from the shelter, he suffered from a severe URI, yeast infection covering his entire body including the pads on his paws, severe hair loss, severe hot spots, dry eye, shot knees, a thumb sized umbilical hernia, infested with worms and covered in flea dirt. He smelled so bad that I had to drive home with the windows down and a scarf around my face to cover my nose. The minute I saw him I thought he looked like he had been through a war. Thus his name, General Tso. He was kept at the shelter with 3 other small dogs.
Additional Notes: No large breed dogs!

Picachu
adopted March 2006

Name: Picachu
Age: 5 years
Sex: Male
Color and Size: Black and White, 14 lbs
Date Received by JCCARE: November 2005
Foster Home: Libby Langford
Foster Location: Birmingham, AL

Health: Very healthy and active. Has had a recent dental, and lost several teeth
Temperament: very outgoing and friendly. Not a dominant dog - prefers having other Chin to follow
Background: Received a call from another rescuer in LA about an ad for Chin in the New Orleans paper. She had called, and a puppy mill was trying to get rid of a breeding pair that never bred. I contacted the puppy mill in MS, and got the pair out on the week before Thanksgiving. They were in good shape, and fairly well socialized. Evidently she kept all the older dogs in a group in a separate building from the breeding ones. Since these were infertile, she kept them with the older ones.
Additional Notes: I don't think he would do well as an only dog. At first I was afraid that he was too attached to the female, but he really just wants another Chin to follow and play with.

Tisha
adopted March 2006

Name: Tisha
Age: 2 years
Sex: Female
Color and Size: Red & White, 8.5 lbs
Date Received by JCCARE: 01/31/06
Foster Home: Ronda
Foster Location: The Colony, TX

Health: Great!
Temperament: Outgoing, sweet, good with other dogs (large and small), cats and kids. She needs to go to a home that will exercise her mind with agility or obedience.
Background: Tisha was kept crated for the first two years of her life. She has adapted incredibly well despite her past.
Additional Notes: I'm not thrilled about shipping Chin. Tisha is somewhat experientally starved and will take some 'work' to introduce her to the real world.

Petie's Happy New Mommy!

Petie
adopted April 2006

Name: Petie
Age: 2 years
Sex: Male
Color and Size: Lemon & White, approx 13 lbs.
Date Received by JCCARE: February 19, 2006
Foster Home: Sylvia Baker
Foster Location: Linwood, NJ

Health: Excellent.
Temperament: For the most part, very very good. He can get growly, and has bitten in the past. I am working on these issue with him and he has made much progress in the past 4 weeks.
Background: Petie is a beautiful, friendly, LEMON chin, turned in by his owner. I was told that he had bitten them a few times. I do believe that the children he lived with picked him up, under his arms, and hurt him...THUS, he will not let you pick him up under his arms. He is otherwise very friendly and is the first to jump up in my lap when I pat it, and tell him to come up... also, he gets along with all my brood and loves to play and run. He sleeps with me, cuddles up and lays across my neck in the morning, nibbling on my nose. He loves to go for walks and he loves to go for rides in my SUV with everyone. I do believe with love and patience, he will forget the need to be afraid and bite. He will be a wonderful pet for someone with dog SAVVY and common sense.
Additional Notes: PETIE will not be shipped, so if you are interested, you will have to come and get him, in Atlantic city, New Jersey. PETIE will also have to go to a home with no small kids, no kids under 15 or so, and also a home that has someone at home quite a lot to work with him and at least ONE OTHER small dog his age to play with. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me.

Munchkin
adopted June 2006

Name: Munchkin
Age: 8 years
Sex: Male
Color and Size: Black & White, 10-11 pounds
Date Received by JCCARE:  May 2006
Foster Home:  Zofia
Foster Location:  Los Angeles, CA

Health: Good....slight ear infection which is being treated.
Temperament: Sweet boy, likes being held but a bit on the skittish side until he gets to know you. Has been with the same family since a pup, so will need time to adjust to new circumstances. Munchkin seems to prefer his own bed to mine, but that could change if he were the only pup in the household.
Background:  Munchkin was purchased from a breeder (now deceased) as a puppy. He was given up to Jccare due to the health of his "Mom". Munchkin has been around other small dogs most of his life, but would do best as an only Chin with people who are around a lot. He had access to a yard so now needs some training walking on a leash, but he is doing pretty well. Would love to see him with people who will take him on daily walks to lose about a lb.
Additional Notes: Quiet household would be ideal for Munchkin. No kids.

Monty
adopted July 2006

Name: Monty
Age: 1 year
Sex: Male
Color and Size: Black & White, 12-15 pounds
Date Received by JCCARE:  June  2006
Foster Home:  Zofia
Foster Location:  Los Angeles, CA

Health: Monty seems like a healthy, happy boy. He will be brought up to date on shots and neutered shortly.
Temperament: Wonderful, although until he is neutered he pretty much has only one thing on his mind. Foster mom says he allows her to do anything to him and is just a big baby. Wants to play with the other Chin but tends to play rough so would be best with canines his own size to rough-house.
Background:  Monty was surrendered by his owners. He IS a fun handful and we think that once he is neutered he will settle down. He has no aggression whatsoever and is still very much a puppy with lots of puppy energy.
Additional Notes: No young kids or other small animals just because he plays so hard. Older kids and bigger friends would be great.

Buddha

Foster Home:  Linda Sims
Foster Location:  Fresno, CA

Background:  Buddha was an owner turn in due to moving and a small child that mistreated him.
Additional Notes: He gets along with other pets including cats. He wants to be wherever you are. He tested heart worm negative and is up to date with his vaccinations. He is ready to go to a loving family.

Mogwaii & Chia
adopted July 2006

Name: Mogwaii & Chia
Age: 5 1/2 years
Sex: Male & Female
Color and Size: Sable Male is 13 pounds and Female is 6 pounds
Date Received by JCCARE:  April 2006
Foster Home:  Heidi Ludwig
Foster Location:  Pella, IA

Health: Overall their health is good. Mogwaii has VERY limited sight in his one eye. Chia, the female, has a slight limp on one front leg. They are being brought up to date on their shots. They also are both getting dentals and Chia is being spayed.
Temperament: Super temperaments. They get along well with other dogs, cats, and kids. Both are pretty much puppy pad and outdoor trained and both walk well on a leash.
Background:  Mogawaii and Chia came from a family that has fallen on hard times. The family decided it was in the best interest of this pair to be placed with a family that can spend more time with them and also afford their necessary vet care.
Additional Notes: As mentioned above, Mogwaii has very little sight. He gets along GREAT and actually is rather confident. This pair has grown up together and must be placed together.

Date Received by JCCARE:  June 1, 2006

Yukki
adopted July 2006

Name: Yukki
Age: Approx 6 years
Sex: Male
Color and Size: Black and White, 13 pounds
Date Received by JCCARE:  June 1, 2006
Foster Home:  Linda
Foster Location:  Vista, CA

Health:  Excellent! No issues. He was neutered on 6/28/06 and had a dental at that time.

Temperament: Yukki is a shy boy but once he warms up he is very sweet. Expect him to be stand-offish at first but within a week or two, you will have a devoted friend who follows you everywhere. He likes to cuddle and play in bed.
Background:  Yukki made his way to rescue because his beloved person passed away.
Additional Notes: Yukki has a strong preference for men. He is a sweet, quiet boy. Good with other dogs, both large and small but does not interact much with them. As is typical of many Chin, he prefers sitting beside his favorite person rather than sitting on a lap. He does like to cuddle in bed but then moves to sleep either on a pillow or at the foot of the bed.

MoyMoy
adopted August 2006

Name: Moy Moy
Age: Mature
Sex: Female
Color and Size: Tri-Color
Date Received by JCCARE:  June 27, 2006
Foster Home:  Terry Anderson

Health: Good
Temperament: Very Sweet
Background:  We picked up Moy Moy...Little sister in Chinese....we were so taken by her we all spent every moment, when we weren't packing for our trip to NYC playing with her and getting her use to the other dogs and cats.

Moy Moy is potty trained and goes in and out our doggy door freely, she also growls at the front door when she wants to go out so I think if her forever parents don't have a doggy door she will let them know! She is a mature girl and just likes to hang out in a chair on the couch or the best is on the ceramic tile floor. As you can see she has what I believe to be a summer cut. She is so sweet and would make a great companion for someone looking for a dog that wants to give them all her love and attention. She sits in the car and if you take her out alls you have to do is clap your hands, make kissy sounds and say Moy Moy...and she comes running. She is also great at taking a bath. My dogs whine and whimper and try to get out. She just stands there and takes it. I can't believe the owner has not come looking for her as she will attach herself to you and will look at you with her big brown eyes that just say I love you. She is a great guard dog. She will bark when people come by. And can perch herself on a window ledge. My parents had her last week and took her everywhere with them. They said they would let her out in their backyard but most of the time she would hang out in the same room they were in, moving from couch to couch, chair to chair looking for a place that was cool and comfy but still in the same room.

Pepe
adopted August 2006

Name: Pepe
Age: 6 years
Sex: Male
Color and Size: Black & White, approx 11 lbs.
Date Received by JCCARE: October 14, 2005
Foster Home: Kim Pomo
Foster Location: Preston, CT

Health: Excellent. Neutered and current on shots.
Temperament: He will bite out of fear if cornered, or unsure of what's going on. He is non-aggressive with other dogs or cats. He will after a while play with other dogs. He is a growly talker. He growls when he's happy and if he's not.
Background: Pepe came from a Spanish speaking family, and at first only understood a few commands in English. He loves to sit next to you and loves to go for a walk. He does not like to be picked up. He will bite if he does not want picked up. He is house broken. With my gang, he has progressed well. He is learning how to be a chin. Pepe has had a rough time for the last 4 years, and is distrustful at first. I feel he would do well with possibly an older couple as a companion pet. He has a lot of love to give for the right person. He needs a special person with a heart big enough to understand him.
Additional Notes: No small children. Other dogs or cats are fine.

Sweetie
adopted O
ctober 2006

Name: Sweetie
Age: 1 year
Sex: Female
Color and Size: Black and White – 8.5 pounds
Date Received by JCCARE:  9/12/06
Foster Home:  Jean Vitale
Foster Location:  West Hartford, CT

Health: Excellent, completely vetted, microchipped, only diagnosis is mild subluxating patella

Temperament: Feisty, playful with other dogs, affectionate with people, gives kisses, is a lap sitter!
Background: Was "rescued" by woman in NJ who was going thru rough patch, but couldn't bear to leave poor Sweetie in the pet store where she'd been for 9 months. She kept her 3 months, then it became too difficult due to personal circumstances. She felt Sweetie deserved attention and TLC she couldn't give. Also had no other dogs. So she contacted us, drove up from NJ to personally meet us and feel comfortable with who Sweetie would be going to, as people and as an organization.
Additional Notes: As is understandable after spending months in a cage, she is not completely housebroken, though progress is being made daily. Will only consider applicants who are able to come and meet Sweetie personally with their dog(s), to make sure it is a happy match!

 Henry
adopted
November 2006

Name: Henry
Age: Approx 5 years
Sex: Male
Color and Size: Black & White, 6 pounds
Date Received by JCCARE:
 7/28/06
Foster Home:
 Toni Webb
Foster Location:  Atlanta, GA
Health:
Henry seems to be in excellent health. He has been neutered, wormed and is up to date on his vaccinations.
Temperament:  Sweet, sweet, sweet! Seems to love everyone and gets along great with other dogs.

Background:  Henry was confiscated from a puppy mill in Georgia, along with 43 other dogs. Henry was apparently the owner's pet and therefore, doesn't seem to have the same issues as a puppy mill rescue.

 Bella
adopted
November 2006

Name: Bella
Age:  3 years
Sex: Female
Color and Size: Black and White – 8 pounds
Foster Home:  Jenny McDonald
Foster Location:  Orange Park, FL

Health:   Very thin, but otherwise is in good health. She is slowly putting on weight.
Temperament:  Very sweet and loving, but somewhat nervous with strangers and Children. She is also very aggressive with other females

Background: Bella is an owner surrender and has apparently been through some trauma. She has come a long way, but is still very scared of strangers and a bit jumpy (especially around children). Once she decides to trust someone she is extremely loving and snuggly. I can tell that she really wants to be someone's special girl. Bella is very aggressive with females, but seems to be o.k. with males.

Additional Notes: Bella needs to be in a home that does not have any other female dogs. Because of her emotional issues, which she is quite impressively working through, she will also need to be in a home where there is not any small children.

Ling

adopted November 2006

Name: Ling
Age: 1.5 Years
Sex: Male
Color and Size: Black & White
Date Received by JCCARE:
 10-28-2006
Health:
Perfect Health.
Temperament:  Ling is a very friendly dog. He gets along well with other animals and does well with children. He is STARVED for attention! Ling needs someone that will be able to make him the center of their universe.

Background: Ling was purchased as a puppy and the owner soon discovered she was allergic to him. She gave him to a friend who she thought would take good care of him. Unfortunately that friend gave him away again and he ended up being seized by Animal Control along with a Pitbull with a severely embedded collar. Ling was found tied outside where he apparently lived for some time.

Luckily the original owner had him micro chipped and the shelter tracked her down. She took him back in and got him UTD on all shots and ensured he was in great health.

Additional Notes: Still working on his house breaking. Ling is also a dominance humper. I am working with him to stop this habit.

Additional Notes: Ernie is a sweet loveable guy who wants nothing more than to be by your side loving you. He's the happiest when he can be close by so that when he wakes from a nap he can look up and see you. Would probably do best as an only dog or with just one other about the same size. Ernie loves to ride in the car, lay on his rug or the back of the couch looking out the window. He's very childlike in personality... once he feels at home he'll talk to you and do what he must to get attention. Gets along with other dogs, kids and loves to chase cats if they run. Loves to be groomed, touched and generally loved on.
