JAPANESE CHIN RESCUE ADOPTION AGREEMENT
I, _____________________________________, hereinafter known as “Adopter”, agree to the following conditions set forth by the Japanese Chin Care and Rescue Effort (JCCARE) in order to adopt a Japanese Chin from this rescue organization. The Chin I am adopting is known as ______________________ (insert name of Chin).
AGREEMENT: The adoptive family represents and warrants that all members of the family are free of past and present charges of animal cruelty or neglect. “Adopter” agrees that the Japanese Chin will be a house pet who lives indoors. The “Adopter” and adoptive family accept the following conditions in order to adopt a Chin:
ALL JCCARE CHIN SHALL BE ALTERED PRIOR TO PLACEMENT with adoptive families. The Chin will be given two to three weeks to adjust to his new surroundings, in consideration of the fact that it takes this long for an animal to become compatible with new surroundings. He/she will need time to adjust to the new family and other pets and routines. After 21 days from placement of your chin, the adoption will be considered permanent.
“Adopter” agrees to license Chin within six (6) weeks of placement. Proof of licensing must be forwarded to JCCARE within eight (8) weeks of placement. We require all rescue Chin be identifiable by microchips. Japanese Chin will be microchipped before placement and cost will be met by “Adopter”.
Japanese Chins are indoor dogs and will be kept accordingly. The Chin will be provided adequate outdoor shelter, water and secured fence or kennel area to prevent escape or theft when outdoors. Invisible fencing is not deemed secured fencing. The Chin will NOT be housed or left outdoors for extensive periods of time or overnight.
The Chin will not be allowed to roam outside the confines of the “Adopter’s” home or fenced yard. “Adopter” shall provide adequate control over his/her Chin. “Adopter’s” Chin will be kept on leash whenever taken from his or her yard to protect the Chin from running away or being injured by a car, bike, another animal, etc.
Adequate grooming will be provided to keep the Chin flea and tick free, maintain condition of coat, feet, teeth, nails and eyes. “Adopter’s” Chin will be taken for a once yearly full vet check up, and shall forward the record to JCCARE. “Adopter” will keep his/her Chin up to date on all vaccines, and should medical care be needed, “Adopter” shall immediately provide adequate care. If “Adopter” is unable to provide care, JCCARE will be notified at once.

“Adopter” will provide nutritionally healthy, good quality food, and clean, fresh water in sufficient quantity. Comfortable bedding, toys and treats will be provided for the Chin as needed.
“Adopter” agrees to provide an environment that ensures proper and adequate socialization of the chin to people and animals. This includes, but is not limited to, providing the Chin regular contact with other animals and people. This encourages the Chin to maintain socially acceptable behavior and discourage habits or situations that could result in intolerable or nuisance behaviors.
“Adopter” agrees to admit a JCCARE member into their home to check on the Chin and to make sure there is full compliance with all conditions of this agreement, should JCCARE, in it’s sole discretion, deem a post-adoption home check necessary at any time. Failure to comply with all conditions stated herein will be cause for JCCARE’s demand for return of the Chin. Adopter hereby agrees that should JCCARE make demand for return of the Chin, Adopter shall comply forthwith with such request. Should Adopter refuse, Adopter shall be responsible for all costs incurred for JCCARE to proceed with legal process for return of said Chin.
If the Chin is lost or stolen, or if the “Adopter” has an address or telephone number change, JCCARE must be notified at once. If at any time of for any reason the “Adopter” is unable to keep or care for the Chin, JCCARE must be notified at once. This Chin cannot be given away without the express written approval of JCCARE. “Adopter” acknowledges that JCCARE may incur costs if the Chin is turned in to a shelter or otherwise not returned to JCCARE; therefore, “Adopter” agrees that SHOULD THE CHIN NOT BE RETURNED TO JCCARE AND JCCARE INCUR COSTS OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, EXCESS MEDICAL COSTS, SHELTER FEES OR THE LIKE DUE TO ADOPTER’S FAILURE TO PROPERLY RETURN THE CHIN TO JCCARE, ADOPTER SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL SUCH COSTS.

In accordance with the foregoing, Adopter agrees to submit to Personal jurisdiction in the courts of Cecil County, Maryland or alternately, in the courts of New Castle County, Delaware, at JCCARE’s choosing, should JCCARE need to bring an action to recover such costs. __________ (Adopter’s Initials)
“Adopter” agrees to refrain from all activities that will result in creating an aggressive or fearful reaction in the Chin. This includes, but is not limited to, allowing children or other persons, or animals to abuse, tease, torture or otherwise hurt or frighten the Japanese

Chin. A safe and emotionally nurturing environment will be provided for the Chin. The Chin will not be chained, kenneled outdoors, or used in ANY dog/animal fighting or treated cruelly, neglectfully or subjected to any biological, chemical, physical or psychological experimentation.
Your Chin has no guarantees or warranty of any kind. We do not know its breeding or pedigree.
“Adopter” agrees to release and hold harmless the Japanese Chin Care and Rescue Effort (JCCARE, Inc.); its officers, directors and members from any and all liability or responsibility in connection with this Chin.
JCCARE AGREES TO ACCEPT THE RETURN OF YOUR CHIN AT ANY TIME FOR ANY REASON. REASONABLE EFFORT WILL BE MADE TO ACCOMMODATE THE EXPEDITIOUS RETURN OF YOUR DOG TO THE NEAREST JCCARE REPRESENTATIVE AT A MUTUALLY AGREEABLE TIME AND PLACE. HOWEVER, IF THIS CANNOT BE IMMEDIATELY ARRANGED, YOU UNDERSTAND AND AGREE THAT IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CARE FOR THE DOG UNTIL ALTERNATE ARRANGEMENTS CAN BE MADE THROUGH JCCARE. SHOULD YOU REQUIRE IMMEDIATE PLACEMENT OF THE DOG, YOU MAY ARRANGE TO SHIP THE DOG TO A DESIGNATED JCCARE REPRESENTATIVE, AT YOUR SOLE COST AND EXPENSE, WITH THE PRIOR WRITTEN PERMISSION OF JCCARE, WHICH PERMISSION SHALL NOT BE UNREASONABLY WITHHELD. A fifty percent (50%) refund of your placement fee will be returned to you if your Chin is found to be unacceptable within 21 days of placement.
“ADOPTER” WILL NOT SELL, GIVE AWAY, RELEASE TO A SHELTER OR A NEW HOME, this Japanese Chin.

Fee is payable by money order, cashier’s or certified check or via PayPal to jccare_inc@hotmail.com. NOTE: If paying by PayPal, add a three percent (3%) administrative fee to cover the fees charged to JCCARE by PayPal. JCCARE DOES NOT ACCEPT PERSONAL CHECKS FOR ADOPTIONS. ALL ADOPTION FEES AND COSTS MUST BE PAID AT THE TIME CHIN IS DELIVERED TO “ADOPTER.” PAYPAL FEES MUST BE RECEIVED AND VERIFIED AS PAID PRIOR TO PICKUP OF THE CHIN.
JCCARE charges a mandatory Two Hundred and Fifty Dollar ($250.00) Adoption Fee for adoption of a Japanese Chin between the ages of 16 months and ten years. For puppies under 16 months of age, the Adoption Fee is Three Hundred Dollars ($300.00). For Chin over ten years of age, the fee will be no more than Two Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($250.00), and in some cases, may be less. We try not to ship, but if we must, “Adopter” pays full shipping costs in advance if necessary, regardless of the Chin’s age. JCCARE charges a Fifty Dollar ($50.00) “health fee”, when a Chin’s treatments have exceeded $300.00. Chin will be microchipped by JCCARE team member’s veterinarian, and “adopter” agrees to cover this cost in full, along with the registration fee from microchipping service.
JCCARE is financed ONLY by donations and fundraisers. Adoption Fees rarely cover the cost of care. No member of JCCARE is paid for his or her work in this program. Because the cost of spay/neuter, vaccines, full check ups and treatments of other problems can be expensive, often into the hundreds and low thousands, we ask that you consider a further donation to help Japanese Chin in need find the best homes and receive the best care.
