Not a month
after I flew to Montana to collect Jiminy for Amy and Cleo, we had another
email from Donna who runs her own rescue in Kalispell -
Senior Dog House and Rescue - the two Chin she had
placed were being returned: too active for the family who adopted them. So my
husband Kevan and I flew back to Kalispell to collect Winston- another all
black Chin, and Whisper, his black and white sister. We had no history on
them, but it seemed like they had been passed around a fair bit even before
Donna got them from the shelter!
I had a special
home in mind for Whisper, a local family with another Chin and a daughter who
is very special to me, Colleen! Colleen's mom, Linda, and I did alot of secret
planning to keep Whisper's arrival a surprise for Colleen, and BOY was she
ever surprised! The Miyatas tell me Whisper (now Gizmo) is like nothing else-
she is constantly making them laugh, giving kisses and loves to run outside
and bark as loud and as long as she can! The Miyatas other Chin, Bozo, is
learning to enjoy life with his new upstart sister, as well.
Well, Winston
is another story. One look at each other and he and Kevan were bonded for
life. Kevan has seen rescue fosters come and go, and never has he actually
said to me, "This is OUR dog"- usually I get there first! This time, though,
Kevan spoke up fast- and Winston proved it is indeed a writer's life for him
as he helps Dad through articles and deadlines, in between playing mad games
of chase and digging up bits of the garden.
He still shows
traces of worry, probably afraid we will also move him along. He has acted
out, trying to force us to move him along, and that isn't going to happen-
Winston is so friendly and loving and accepting of other creatures, it is
truly our pleasure to be able to call him our own- and the pleasure of the
other Chin who get to play with him!
Winston has
brought more laughter into our home than we have any right to expect, he sings
and chirps for us, gives thousands of kisses and fits in like he has been here
always. Special thanks to Donna Allen for making these three adoptions
(Please visit Jiminy's page if you haven't already!) possible by working with
JCCARE!
