The above photo shows rescue graduate "Princess" resting atop her adoptive mom Janet in a moment of happy communication. It's a remarkable photo to those of us who helped Princess toward her rehabilitation, for when she came into JCCARE's custody she would not allow anyone to touch her. She had been physically abused by her owner, who used to beat her for trying to eat. He also would lift her by her back legs and drop her head first into an up-ended crate, so it's understandable that Prinny had little faith or trust in humans. She was in foster care for almost a year while we worked with her to rebuild that faith and trust, but we knew that she would need a very special home. Well, we got lucky. When Janet came she and Princess fell in love, so we got our happy ending. It has always done our hearts good to look at this picture of the once surly, distrustful little dog who has so obviously found her proper place in life.
