Matthew

Before

After

This is JCCARE's very first rescue dog, the one who sounded the alarm. When I first came into the Chin world everyone told me that there were no distressed Chin anywhere, that all of them were in loving, safe homes. Yet within one month of the time I brought my first one home I had this poor, abused little creature to care for. This little dog, "Matthew", was about a year old when he came to me, very thin, sad looking and frightened. Examination showed that Matty had heartworms which needed treatment as soon as possible. And just as important, Matty needed time to get over his fears. For the longest time he was petrified of feet and ran scuttling whenever someone walked too close to him. And he became a trembling wreck if strangers came.

It's really remarkable, though, what a good bath, a little food and a lot of love will do. Just look at the change in this wonderful dog in just three months. Matty blossomed into a self-confident, merry little fellow who lived a long life as a treasured companion. Matt was never a show dog, of course, never collected blue ribbons, Best of Breeds, Best in Show awards, but he did something far more important for the now and future welfare of the Japanese Chin - he made us realize that there were Chin in trouble, and from this knowledge JCCARE was born in 1992.
