This was Dexter when he first came to JCCARE.
Dexter was rescued
from death row in a Northern California shelter. He was
severely malnourished, his teeth were rotten and
gangrenous, his tail and
feet had recently been set on fire, resulting in
charred, exposed flesh on
his feet and tail. The shelter had him recorded as a
three time turn in
over his 7 years of life. This was to be his last
visit.
He was brought to
a loving vet who nursed this sad little guy from certain
death into a happy, healthy, funny boy who loves to run
outside and play
with his housemates. Emotionally Dexter seemed not to
carry many scars,
once he settled in he was 'one of the gang'. Physically
his recovery has
taken longer, although he now sports a gorgeous fluffy
coat- feet and all-
and a plumed tail that would make a showdog jealous. He
doesnt get around
all that well sometimes, but he loves what he can do.
He's in good weight
and loves to eat. He is always the first to engage
visiting friends, be
they canine or human. He is about to celebrate his 8th
birthday, in
California with all the friends who made it possible!!
The most amazing
thing about having Dexter in our lives is what he has
taught us. Pound for pound, I cant say we've ever had a
day as bad as those
we know Dexter had to face. Yet every day when you come
home, there's
Dexter, barking his little bark, rolling around on his
back kicking his
feet up at you- overjoyed to see you again. You just
cant complain about
the job, the money or anything knowing what Dexter has
survived without a
grumble.
Thanks to JCCARE
and Toy Breed Rescue in San Jose, CA, Dexter has a forever
home and three humans who love him more than words can
say.
We owe him big!!
