Bonzai
by Faye and Don Giovannoni

This is the story of:
HIS ROYAL MAJESTY (he thinks) BONZAI, KING OF EVERYTHING

Hi, we are Faye and Don Giovannoni and we have a very happy adoption story to tell.
First of all, we want to express our profound thank you's to JCCARE, both Dana Baldinger of Washington state and Trudie Rossi of Sacramento, CA for allowing Bonzai to join our lives.  Also many thanks to the Tschopps who were kind enough to transport Bonzai from Washington to Sacramento.
Bonzai was a very loved little dog by his former owners, who relinquished him due to personal reasons to JCCARE in Washington when he was 10 months old.  We are in contact with his former owners and keep them up to date on his progress and also provide them with pictures.  What a lucky little guy, two moms and two dads. who love him.
Bonzai came into our life after a long journey down from Washington state to Sacramento, Ca where he lodged with Trudie Rossi with JCCARE until he was united with the three of us, Faye, Don and our other little precious Japanese Chin-- Mai Tai.  When we arrived at Trudie's home and she greeted us with Bonzai in tow, it was an instant love affair with another little Chin.  A very clever little boy he is, as he managed to undo the lock on his crate on the journey home to Carson City, Nevada, and in a New York minute, a very surprised Don suddenly had Bonzai nesting in his lap.
One Japanese Chin is more than wonderful, but two are absolutely "divine".  What one of these little guys does not think of, the other one will.  With more than 50 toys, seven beds shared by these two little guys, they both seem to want the same thing at the same time.  There are many tussles with toys, bed ownership and who gets on either mom or dad's lap first, which sounds like WWIII.  What a couple of nuts!  Bonzie' Baby's motto is "You first after Me"  If he thinks he should be getting the most attention he will swing that little butt around like a boomerang and push Mai Tai aside.  He's got the fastest butt in town.  Mai Tai takes it all in stride and will just mosey off in another direction.
From atop the sofa back, Bonzai surveys all the happenings that occur and will tell anyone "This is My Street".  We have thought of renaming it Bonzai Blvd.  Mai Tai doesn't care whose street it is, she is as mellow as he is a busybody.  Bonzie is verbal, Mai Tai never barks.  What we have is a beautiful blend of Mutt and Jeff, but we lovingly refer to them as Frick and Frack.
These two are so connected we dare not take one anywhere without the other.  Recently Mai Tai had to go to the vet and we were going to leave Bonzai home.  BIG MISTAKE, as he can con anyone.  The trick is to howl like your tail is in a vice and all the neighbors will take pity on you.  You got it----he went to the vet's office too.  And of course demanded his time with the good doctor.
The prejudiced two:
One of the seven beds is a crate which has all the comforts any little Chin could want, cushy foam foundation, snuggly cover, along with two playmates, a little brown bear, and a little white bear.  We had to have a very long talk with them and explain we all have to get along in this world, every is treated the same, because----they kept kicking the little brown bear out of the crate.  Poor little thing was always out in the cold.  The talk must have done some good, as they haven't kicked him out of the bed in a long time.
Bedtime Routine:
Both little Chins allow us to share the king size bed with them, now isn't that nice of them.
Bonzai gets on the bed via the trunk at the end of the bed, (Mai Tai has short legs so we help out on this one) and then "dad" gives them their little treat.  Then the light goes on in Bonzie's head, and he leaps down off the bed and races to the family room to retrieve his little kitty cat toy runs back in puts it on the bed and then races back in for his little fishy. So, even doggies have to have their "blankey" too, to go night night.
Mai Tai's routine for going to bed-----eat the cookie, go to sleep!
We look forward to many more moons with these two characters, they keep you young, make you laugh, and pull all your heart strings.  A day without a Chin is like a day without sunshine.
Bonzai's boundless energy and Mai Tai's calm demeanor make them great pals and ol" Bonzie is nuts about his little Mai Tai, and thinks no other canine should even cast a glance her way.  She does have a beautiful little suitor, and gorgeous Shih Tzu named Turk, and when he comes to rub noses with her through the fence, ol" Bonzie will run up, put his little butt in motion and whisk her away from the fence.  Nobody is going to get her attention but Bonzai.
Look at this pix, don't they belong together.
If you don't have a Chin, get one, get one through JCCARE.  These little guys all have a story, need a home, most of all your love and believe me you will thank yourself forever for having one of these unique, sometimes haughty and aloof, but ever loving little guys.  They are the best lap warmers in the universe.
Thanks, JCCARE for the wonderful work you do and for your enormous hearts and compassion.
St. Francis has to be smiling down on you..
